In relation to the taxi accident that struck and killed three pedestrians at an intersection in Gwangju, the police announced that they are requesting a preliminary arrest warrant for the taxi driver.
Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 9th that it had decided to apply for a preliminary arrest warrant for Mr. A, in his 60s, who was booked on charges of causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accidents the day before, considering the seriousness of the case that resulted in three casualties.
Mr. A is suspected of hitting and killing three pedestrians on a crosswalk with the taxi he was driving at an intersection in Songjeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, at approximately 1:23 p.m. the previous day.
After the police checked the vehicle’s black box video, Mr. A’s taxi entered the intersection at a red light and collided with a car coming from the other side, then rushed into the crosswalk and hit pedestrians.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly claimed that he was unable to control the vehicle due to sudden acceleration.
The three people who died in this accident were a man in his 60s, a woman in her 50s, and a man in his 40s. Two of them were investigated as acquaintances.
