Kim Joo-hyung is tied for seventh on day one of the DP World Tour Championship, two shots off the lead

World No. 11 Joo Hyung Kim (pictured) is tied for seventh place after the first day of the DP World Tour Championship, the final event on the DP World Tour ($10 million).

Kim carded three birdies and no bogeys for a 3-under 69 on day one of the tournament at the par-72 Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday (Sept. 16) to sit in a tie for seventh place with Viktor Hovlan (NOR) and Tommy Fleetwood (GBR). Kim holed a birdie putt from more than six meters on the eighth (par-4) and added two more birdies on the par-5 14th and 18th holes. On the 14th, he put his third shot to within one meter of the pin, and on the 18th, he left 64 yards for a birdie putt after sending his third shot to four meters of the pin.

Minwoo Lee (AUS), who has two wins on the DP World Tour, opened with a 1-under 71 and is tied for 15th with Rory McIlroy (NI). Lee made a double bogey on the first but recovered with three birdies on the rest of the holes. McIlroy, who recently resigned from the PGA Tour’s Policy Board of Directors, had five birdies and four bogeys on the day.

Defending champion and World No. 3 Jon Rahm (Spain) is tied for 24th at even par after trading a birdie and three bogeys.
